Der Daiwel steet virun der Dir
In a country where 99% of underground shows are about punk, hardcore, metalcore and all kinds of indie and alternative rock, the demanding avant-garde fan
despairs of never seeing truly unique bands. Consider our fortune when US East Coast avant metal band Kayo Dot not only made it to Luxembourg as tour guests
for Gregor Samsa, but even played a set which was much longer than what you normally get from an opening band.
On this 30th May, the more mundane people probably headed to Atelier to see an admittedly sexy Róisín Murphy, but the true musicophiles had to be at d:qliq that
evening. After the show was over and a few beers later, we kidnapped Kayo Dot to the nearby Radio ARA to tape an interview at around midnight.
Having their origins in the more metal sounding maudlin of the Well, guitarist and vocalist Toby Driver later recruited violinist Mia Matsumiya, who also plays with
Gregor Samsa, who form now the core members of Kayo Dot, whose latest album "Blue Lambency Downward" was recently released on Hydra Head Records.
