Amon Amarth are one of the best Swedish death metal bands and they have released their fourth CD Vs The World. The lyrics are again about northern mythology. Luckily the music is more demanding than the lyrics. This is their first album which has not been recorded in the Abyss studios because its owner Peter Tägtgren is only producing his own bands. Amon Amarth moved to the Berno studios and the sound isn't worse than on the albums recorded before. Already the opener Death In Fire shows you that Amon Amarth are still a hard and fast death metal band which also put some melodic elements into the music. But to my surprise, Amon Amarth dropped the speed on some tracks, without losing a bit of the initial brutality. Especially Across The Rainbow Bridge is so melodic that it shows some parallels to Sentenced, partly because of the melodic and high tuned guitars. But the cruel vocals still assure that Amon Amarth make a great death metal album. There will be a limited double CD edition of Versus The World which will contain some rare Amon Amarth material.
