Actually there are lot of new German bands playing power metal. Chinchilla started already in 1988, but had to wait until 2000 to get a record deal. The opener on their new CD Madtropolis reminds me very much of Gamma Ray, a band that surely pushed this movement fast forward. A Dance With The Devil is a very melodic track which goes easily into your ears. It's one of my favourite tracks and has the qualities to become one of the band's classics. Although most songs on the CD are played at high speed, there are also more moderate, even sluggish songs like Entire World or Turn Around The Magic Table, which is not the band's strong side. Satellite is quite a mellow song with a beautiful melody and is sounding like a metal track for kindergarten kids. For the hymn called Heavy Metal, Chinchilla have good chances to win the award for the most stupid lyrics. I'm sure that true power metal fans will adore this album by Chinchilla which so far is the best one they have done. But I regret that there are actually too many bands who have chosen this musical way.
